There probably hasn't been a stallion that has been more underrated, yet caused as much buzz in the cutting industry than Widows Freckles.
The 1994 stallion sired by Freckles Playboy out of The Widow Wilson by Son Ofa Doc was purchased by David & Stacie McDavid, Fort Worth, Texas as a compliment to their young stallion Hes A Peptospoonful. Widows Freckles is the sire of only 5 foals of competitive age, of which 3 are NCHA money earners, highlighted by six-year-old, Widows Intentions. There are no four or five year olds sired by this young stallion as he was being shown in weekend compeition. He closed out his career as the 2002 NCHA Reserve World Champion Stallion, winning the final round of the NCHA Finals with a score of 228 and then being retired immediately to stud.
The cutting world statrted giving him his due when three foals born in 2000, all out of Son Ofa Doc-bred mares, started their cutting careers in 2003. With a limited foal crop of three-year-old that years, his offspring have already earned nearly half a million dollars. |
